I recently got a PlayStation Plus subscription (the premium one), and one of the things I loved most about it is that it allowed me to play some of my favorite classics from my childhood.
You could say that it was the perfect hit of nostalgia, something I didn’t know I needed so badly.
These games include titles from the first-ever PlayStation and the PlayStation 2, known to be the best consoles in the PlayStation series.
However, the classics from PlayStation 3 need to be streamed, as those games only work through cloud streaming. In that case, you must have a superfast internet connection at home so that these games run as smoothly as possible.
My previous internet connection wasn’t fast enough to reliably stream these games. So, I decided to switch to a faster connection. I looked at quite a few providers. And while most of them are great, I found a mention of Xfinity, and how it’s able to stream games without any hiccups.
Switching to one of the high-tier Xfinity packages was one of the best decisions I ever made. Not only are they affordable, but also fast and reliable. And bundling TV and internet together helped me save some money as well.
Coming back to the classics, here are some games that I think you shouldn’t miss out on while they’re in the catalog.
Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue
I think everyone would agree when I say that all of us grew up watching all the Toy Story movies, which include Toy Story 2 as well. However, it was the game that formed most of my childhood. I remember, I would insert the disc for the game and turn on my PS1, and then spend the entire day playing as Buzz Lightyear.
Though the graphics were horrible, there was something about the game that always appealed to me.
You could use lasers to defeat your enemies, or you could spin like a top to attack enemies with your wings. Not only that, but you also had other accessories such as rocket boots, anti-gravity boots, a disc launcher, and a grappling hook that made it easy to traverse and attack different enemies and bosses.
You should definitely try out the game if you want a trip down memory lane as well.
God of War III
I never played this game when it was released on the PlayStation 3, but I finally had the chance to play it on my PlayStation 5, all thanks to my PS Plus subscription. I haven’t played the first two games, but the third entry in the series was enough to tell me how great the previous parts must have been.
The game picks up right after the ending of God of War 2, with Kratos climbing Mount Olympus alongside the Titans so that they could take down Zeus and all the other Olympian gods. The game still had all the woozy PlayStation 3 effects, but since it was a remaster released on the PS4, the game was still pretty bearable to play.
I loved all the boss fights in the game since they showed a side of Kratos I wasn’t familiar with before (a very ruthless Kratos), and it occurred to me how much Kratos had changed in the God of War reboot released on the PS4 (the one with Norse mythology)
Tekken 2
Other than Toy Story 2, most of my childhood was spent playing Tekken 2.
In fact, I played the game like an addict until I unlocked all the playable characters in the game. The game had horrible graphics since it was released on the PS1, but the game still had the same thrill you would get even if you played Tekken 8 today.
Plus, come to think of it, the game had an interesting story as well, as it followed the ongoing feud between Heihachi Mishima and his son Kazuya Mishima.
I’ve played nearly all the Tekken games after Tekken 2, but there’s something about Tekken 2 that has a special place in my heart. I was over the moon when I found out that I could play the game after all these years without having to stream it, all thanks to PlayStation Plus. I can’t tell you how many hours I have put into that game.
Pursuit Force
This PSP game shared a lot of similarities with Just Cause, but this one, in itself, was a great game to play.
You would jump from vehicle to vehicle as you would try to capture and bring down the bad guys. Not only were you able to drive or ride police vehicles, but you also had the option to drive enemy vehicles, which gave the game an interesting touch.
As you complete missions, you proceed through an intricate story, which was a pretty interesting element to the game. You’ll definitely have to try it out to see what a great game it was.
Definitely ahead of its time.
This concludes my list of games that you should try out. Make sure you give all of them a shot so that you can have a rush of adrenaline and a kick of nostalgia as well.
